The appearance of the Mat in the Russian language because of the Mongol invasion is a myth. About it on radio Sputnik said the Vice-rector for science of the State Russian language Institute named after Pushkin, doctor of Philology Mikhail Osadchy.
According to him, profanity existed in Russia long before the formation of the Golden Horde. This was originally swear words were not. So, cognate with the words “needles” or “stick” the f word, go back to one ancient root which meant a stick from the needles. Similar situation with the same root word “to wander”.
The scientist pointed out that the greatest distribution of Mat Russian language has the 1917 revolution, since the use of the literary language “was not just fashionable, and even to some extent dangerous,” since man could give his estates belonging to the nobility or the clergy. “The authorities of the era in every way, boasted of his nation. This fashion on the common people and strong language from the mouth of government and strengthened the Mat in our culture and has made it so popular,” — said Osadchiy.
In January it became known that the swearing of the Russian cities were Vladivostok, Nizhnevartovsk, Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk and Surgut. As it turned out, Petrozavodsk, Cheboksary, Vologda, St. Petersburg and Khimki — city, whose residents are least likely to resort to abusive language
In December 2019, scientists came to the conclusion that profanity at work increases the trust between people and is often the cause of the success of the team. The researchers found that the Mat allows us to convey such feelings and meanings that are poorly expressed in everyday language. So colleagues can get to know and understand each other, and this leads to stronger links and increased confidence. Also such language in various spheres of life called evidence that people are less likely to lie, have higher levels of emotional intelligence and possess a large vocabulary.
