Former acting The head of the North Korean embassy mission in Kuwait, Ryu Hyun, who fled the country, questioned the possibility of denuclearization. He told CNN about this.

According to the diplomat, the head of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, will not give up the nuclear arsenal, but will most likely want to agree on a reduction in arms. By doing so, he hopes to ease international sanctions that damage the country's economy. According to Ryu Hyun, “North Korea's nuclear power is directly related to the stability of the regime.” He suggested that Kim Jong-un expects nuclear weapons to be “the key to his survival.”

The diplomat also spoke about the supply of weapons from North Korea to Syria in the period from 2010 to 2013. At this time, Ryu Hyun himself worked with the Syrians and knew that Damascus was supplied with multiple launch rocket systems and air defense systems. However, after the outbreak of the civil war in Syria, Pyongyang was allegedly forced to withdraw supplies.

Since 2018, the United States and the DPRK have been negotiating the denuclearization of North Korea. Former US President Donald Trump said he was ready to lift sanctions from the republic in the event of an agreement on this issue. However, the latest negotiations in October 2019 fell through, which was announced in Pyongyang but denied in the United States. In December, the DPRK announced that it did not need further dialogue with the United States on the issue of denuclearization.
