DiCaprio and Bezos reach out to Biden on climate change

by alex

More than 150 activists, actors and business people, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, have signed an open letter to US President Joe Biden calling for a response to climate change. The open letter was published on the Climate Power 2020 website.

“You may be remembered as the“ climate president ”who took humanity off the edge of the cliff. You can enable the world's energy systems to shift from fossil fuels to clean energy while creating many jobs, reducing pollution, while eliminating economic, racial and health inequalities, ”the letter says.

The authors of the appeal appreciated Biden's decree on the return of the United States to the Paris climate agreement. However, in their opinion, this is not enough, therefore “everything in our power” should be done.

Among the celebrities, the letter was signed by actresses Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mastercard Ajay Banga, Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament, Pascal Kanfin.

During his first hour in the White House, Joe Biden overturned a number of decisions of his predecessor, Donald Trump. In particular, he signed a decree on the return of the United States to the Paris climate agreement.
