Development of respiratory fluid has begun in Russia

by alex

Scientists at Sevastopol State University have begun to develop a liquid that can be breathed under water at great depths. This was reported in a press release on the website Godnauki.rf.

The technology of liquid ventilation of the lungs provides for the creation of a special spacesuit that is able to withstand pressure at a depth of the Mariana Trench (about 11 kilometers). The suit will be filled with breathing fluid, which can be breathed – the oxygen-containing blood substitute perftoran, which is already used in medical practice.

Researchers are testing the system in a special pipe 2.5 meters deep, equipped with various sensors and CCTV cameras. Perftoran is an emulsion based on perfluorinated organic compounds in which all hydrogen atoms are replaced by fluorine atoms. Experiments have already demonstrated the fundamental possibility of delivering oxygen to the lungs of animals and humans.

The technology will change the way divers work, scientists say. When a scuba diver dives to a depth of more than 60 meters, there is already a serious health risk, and a diver working at a depth of 500 meters requires 17 days of recovery, in addition, there is a high probability of becoming disabled. Liquid breathing will allow a person to descend safely to any depth.
