A court in Ankara delivered a guilty verdict in the case of the murder of Russian ambassador Andrei Karpov. 14 people received real prison sentences, including life sentences, RIA Novosti reports.
Nine of those involved in the case were given from 5 to 15 years in prison, the remaining five will spend the rest of their lives in prison. Life sentences are also given under the article on terrorism.
Earlier, from the court session, it was reported that a total of 28 people were suspects in the case, at least five of them were acquitted.
On December 19, 2016, the then Russian ambassador to Ankara, Andrei Karlov, was shot dead in the Turkish capital. The attack was carried out by former police officer Mevlut Mert Altintash, who was immediately eliminated by local security forces. The Russian Foreign Ministry qualified the incident as a terrorist attack. The diplomat was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
