A resident of Tomsk, who set fire to the Lenta hypermarket on Pushkin Street on December 25, was kicked out of the house by his wife the day before. Details appeared on the SHOT Telegram channel.

According to the channel, the woman told investigators that her husband had been behaving less and less stable for the past six months and could suddenly start to freak out, shout, break dishes or push. There were frequent quarrels between the spouses.

In early December, a Russian got a job as a salesman in a pyrotechnics store. A little later, his anxiety allegedly increased, it seemed to him that someone wanted to kill him. The employer also noted the depressed state of the man, but attributed this to problems in relations with his wife.

His wife signed him up to a psychiatrist on December 28, but could not stand his behavior and on the 24th asked him to move out of their apartment. The man left, and the next day he committed arson.

The fire in the Lenta hypermarket on Pushkin Street in Tomsk began in the fireworks department. About 500 visitors and 150 employees were evacuated from the building, no one was injured. The amount of damage was estimated at approximately 600 thousand rubles. A criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Attempt to intentionally destroy someone else’s property by arson, not completed due to circumstances beyond his control”).

This is the second case of arson in the Lenta hypermarket in Tomsk – the first occurred on December 21 in a store on Elizarovykh Street. The suspect turned out to be a local resident who had previously been prosecuted on suspicion of setting fire to a hypermarket. He was arrested for two months. The third “Lenta” in Tomsk closed the department with fireworks.
