Despite lockdowns in Turkey, fans of Istanbul's Besiktas club celebrated their club's championship on the street. Videos showed a scramble between Besiktas fans and district guards. The auxiliary police fired warning shots in the air. The behavior of the security forces caused sharp criticism on social media.
The new master Besiktas, meanwhile, dedicated the success to the fans. They would have tirelessly supported the club throughout the season. “This championship is yours,” wrote the club on Twitter and shared a photo of the team from the dressing room. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wrote on Twitter that he warmly congratulates.
