Deputy committed suicide: details of the tragedy

by alex

The man committed suicide, and an investigation has now begun.

In France, 54-year-old National Assembly deputy Olivier Marlet was found dead. According to preliminary information, it was a suicide.

Le Monde reports this.

French National Assembly member Olivier Marlet, a prominent critic of government policy, was found hanged in his home. Eure-et-Loire prosecutor Frederic Chevalier confirmed the suicide, but noted that police were investigating to rule out other possible versions and fully reconstruct the chronology of events.

Marlet had a reputation as a consistent, ideological politician with a clear civic position. He was a member of parliament from the Republican party and repeatedly criticized the current French President Emmanuel Macron. His death was unexpected and caused a wide resonance in the country's political circles.

At the National Assembly session, he was honoured with a minute of silence. Colleagues remembered Marlet as a man of principles, a defender of citizens' interests and a politician who never avoided difficult topics. His memory was honoured not only by his comrades, but also by his political opponents: words of condolence were expressed by Nicolas Sarkozy, François Hollande and Marine Le Pen, emphasizing his intellect, dedication to the cause and ability to conduct an honest public debate.

Olivier Marlet was a consistent critic of the current French President Emmanuel Macron. Despite their political differences, the head of state publicly expressed his condolences over the death of the parliamentarian. In his note, Macron noted that the news of Marlet's death “plunged parliament into mourning.”

“He was an experienced politician who defended his ideas convincingly. I always respected our differences because they were based on a common love for France,” the president noted.

Let us recall that earlier we wrote that the body of a Republican Guard serviceman with no signs of life was found in the garden of the official residence of the Prime Minister of France.
