Denmark discussed the possibility of shooting down a Russian fighter

Denmark remembered the Russian Su-24M fighter jet shot down by Turkey in 2015 in connection with the flights of the Russian military space forces (VKS) near the country's borders. According to journalist Steffen Nyboe McGhie, the Danish state has no real leverage to prevent Russia from violating its air borders.

The author recalled that Danish diplomats protested to Moscow over the alleged violation of the air border. The journalist does not know how to act if this happens again, but he does not recommend following the example of Turkey.

As the head of the Center for Air Operations at the Danish Military Academy, Major Karsten Marrup, pointed out in a conversation with the publication, Russian planes still do not pose any threat: even when they violate the airspace, they do not behave aggressively and do not have missiles on the suspension. So an attack from the Danish side would obviously be excessive.

On June 14, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Danish Foreign Ministry in connection with an incident three days earlier. The Danish Defense Ministry accused Russia of violating airspace. The report said that Russian aircraft violated Danish airspace twice a day. The country's Air Force used aviation to “settle the situation.”

On November 24, 2015, the Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber involved in the anti-terrorist operation in Syria. Both pilots ejected, the navigator managed to escape, the pilot was shot from the ground by militants. After that, a crisis broke out in relations between Moscow and Ankara. The Turkish authorities refused to apologize for the incident, claiming that they did not know about the nationality of the downed plane, which, according to Ankara, entered the country's airspace. The General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces showed the plane's route and said that it did not violate the borders of Turkey.
