Denmark calls for a revision of the attitude towards Nord Stream 2

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called for a new discussion on the future of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This is reported by TASS with reference to Danish Radio.

The politician said that Denmark initially opposed the implementation of the project, since the construction of the gas pipeline would make European countries dependent on Russia.

“I don't think we need to make ourselves dependent on Russian gas. It would be nice if we could start a new discussion about this, ”said Frederiksen, citing a possible revision of Denmark's position on this issue as a positive step.

Earlier, State Duma Deputy Anton Morozov reacted to Germany's threat to suspend the implementation of Nord Stream 2 because of the situation with Alexei Navalny. According to him, the project is being implemented by Russia solely in the interests of European partners who need Russian gas supplies.

Alexei Navalny became ill on the morning of August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow, the plane urgently landed in Omsk. On August 22, the oppositionist was taken to a Berlin clinic. German doctors conducted a study and announced the poisoning of the patient with the poison of the Novichok group. Russian doctors found no poisons in Navalny's body. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that he did not rule out the suspension of the construction of the gas pipeline as a reaction to the situation with the Russian opposition.

The pipeline bypasses transit states – Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and other Eastern European and Baltic countries – through the exclusive economic zones and territorial waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Denmark agreed to build a gas pipeline in its territorial waters in early August.
