Democrat Rafael Warnock won the second round of elections for the Senate in Georgia, bringing party members closer to the majority in the upper house of the US Congress. Reported by CNN.
For the first time in state history, a black candidate won the majority of votes in a Senate election. The politician will also become the first Democratic senator from Georgia in the past 20 years. Warnock is the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. In 2013, he read the blessing during a public prayer during the second inauguration of Barack Obama.
A decisive battle for two Senate seats unfolded in Georgia. If the second mandate goes to Warnock's party member, the Democrats will get a majority in the upper house of Congress. At the moment, Democrats already control the House of Representatives.
Formerly incumbent US President Donald Trump refused to “give” the White House to his successor, President-elect Joe Biden. He promised to arrange a “hellish battle” for the presidency if the Democratic Party members “take over” the Senate and the White House.
