Democrats call on Pence to remove Trump from power

Democrats from the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence calling on the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from power. The document was posted on his Twitter account by one of its authors, Congressman David Cichchilin.

The letter, signed by 19 Democrats, says Trump has once again shown that he “does not want to defend our democracy and fulfill his office.” They urge Pence to apply the 25th Amendment and begin the process of removing President Trump from office. This amendment provides for such a possibility in the event of the incapacity of the head of state. In this case, the vice-president will act as his acting until the inauguration of the new president.

Earlier, the CBS television channel, citing sources, said that members of the US government were thinking about the possibility of Trump's early removal from office and transfer of powers to Pence. It was noted that while these plans are at the stage of discussion and the final decision to remove Trump has not been made.

On January 6, protesters Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and House of Representatives interrupted the meeting, which was planned to approve the results of the last elections, according to which Democrat Joe Biden won the presidential election. Trump himself has called on supporters to act peacefully and support the police. The Capitol Building in Washington was later cleared of protesters. Former US President Barack Obama has accused Trump of inciting violence.
