Barcelona will have to do without Martin Braithwaite for the next few weeks. Yusuf Demir could be the beneficiary. Already against Bayern.
Yusuf Demir is a rough diamond that needs to be cut. In other words: The 18-year-old Austrian needs match practice, which he currently does not get either in the national team or at FC Barcelona. In the World Cup qualifying, he was recently allowed to complete two short appearances, with the Catalans he holds 28 minutes in competitive matches. Too little for someone who is highly praised by everyone.
At least at Barca, Demir could now play more often. One of his offensive colleagues has to be operated on. Martin Braithwaite is suffering from knee problems and conservative treatment has not worked. Surgical intervention is therefore necessary. How long the Dane will be out is still unclear.
The fact is: Braithwaite has been seeded so far and was in the starting line-up in all three league rounds. In the 1-1 draw against Bilbao, he was replaced in minute 62 – for Demir. The ex-Rapidler has good cards to be considered more often by coach Ronald Koeman in the future. Especially since with Antoine Griezmann another regular player left the club.
Barcelona will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League at home on Tuesday. It is quite possible that Demir will play against Marcel Sabitzer.
