“Decided to make some extra money”: Ukrainians detained in Latvia transporting migrants in a bus disguised as border guards

The State Border Service has opened a criminal case against the carriers.

On the night of November 1, two carriers and 25 illegal immigrants were detained in Latvia, who were traveling in a minibus with counterfeit identification marks of the State Border Guard. The bus was equipped not only with a stencil, but also with a license plate that belonged to a real border guard vehicle.

LSM reports this.

During the document check, it turned out that both carriers are citizens of Ukraine. They were trying to transport 25 people of Asian origin who had illegally crossed the Belarusian-Latvian border.

Latvian Interior Minister Rihads Kozlovskis said on the Latvian program “Morning Panorama” that such cases indicate the existence of an extensive network of illegal migrant transportation, which has existed for a long time and is an illegal business that brings in billions.

“If we take the case in Aizkraukle, if these people had managed to realize their intention, it would have brought them a very large income. Therefore, they are clearly ready to take risks,” Kozlovskis summed up.

Recall that law enforcement officers detained a 40-year-old carrier who wanted to make money on evaders.
