A 20-year-old Hong Kong resident in debt faked his kidnapping, tried to get HK $ 300,000 (2.8 million rubles) from his mother and ended up in court. AsiaOne reports.

The woman filed a complaint about the abduction on Friday, December 24. She said that her son, who bears the surname Mac, was taken away in an unknown direction by intruders. She later received a video in which two men allegedly forcibly push him into a car. Also in the video, the kidnappers demanded a ransom in the amount of 300 thousand Hong Kong dollars.

The police managed to quickly figure out the whereabouts of the criminals and detain them. During interrogation, the young people confessed that Mack had persuaded him to organize his own abduction. He went for it because he owed a large sum and decided to rob the parent in order to pay the debts.

According to Hong Kong law, any false report of an offense that distracted the police from work and caused the expense of public funds is punishable by up to six months' imprisonment and a fine of two thousand local dollars (about 19 thousand rubles).

Earlier it was reported that in Spain, a woman staged her own abduction and forced her husband to pay a ransom. The Spaniard spent the honor of money on a game of bingo.
