Deadline for decision on Assange's extradition announced

by alex

The decision on the extradition of the creator of WikiLeaks Julian Assange, who is in a British prison, will not be made until next year. This became known from the WikiLeaks Twitter post.

The approximate term was named following the results of the court hearing on the issue of extradition. It is noted that in 2021 Assange's fate may depend on the new US president: elections will be held on November 3 this year.

On September 22, it became known that the WikiLeaks founder was in depression. In addition, he can commit suicide if extradited to the States.

The US Department of Justice filed 17 charges against the Australian in May 2019, adding another later. In case of extradition to the United States, which is currently underway, the WikiLeaks founder faces up to 175 years in prison.

The current President of the States, Donald Trump, claimed that he was ready to pardon Assange if he named the source from whom he received the texts of letters from the hacked servers of the Democratic Party in 2016.

In 2012, fearing extradition to Sweden due to rape charges (the case was dropped in 2019), Assange applied for asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. There he was continuously for almost seven years. Assange is currently serving a prison sentence in the UK for violating bail conditions.
