Scientists have suggested that dark matter is worth looking for inside the gas giant planets. “Traps” inside them can “suck” invisible particles.
Researchers believe that the planet's gravity can attract and capture dark matter particles. Inside the gas giant, they eventually collide and destroy each other. This process is accompanied by heat bursts.
This could explain why planets near the center of the galaxy, where there is likely to be a huge amount of dark matter, can be uncharacteristically hot.
To test this hypothesis, scientists need to obtain and study unusual heat signatures. They could be recorded by next-generation space telescopes. Therefore, it will take some time before researchers can actually test their hypothesis.
