The Danish authorities have disclosed data that the risks of hospitalization are increased due to the British strain of the coronavirus. This was stated by the Minister of Health of the country Magnus Heunike, he was quoted by RIA Novosti.
“Recent studies in Denmark show that the risk of getting to the hospital for someone infected with this strain is about 60 percent higher,” Heunike said.
According to the head of the Danish Institute of Public Health Henrik Ullum, more than 60 percent of all identified samples are infected with the British strain of the virus. Apparently, this mutation is spreading faster: the coefficient is 1.2, while other variants of the coronavirus have a spread rate below one.
In mid-February, Reuters wrote that the number of infected people in Denmark was growing: this was associated with the spread of the British strain.
Since the beginning of December, it has become known about the emergence of new mutated strains of SARS-CoV-2 from the UK, South Africa and Brazil. It is assumed that these variants of the virus spread more easily, and this could lead to an increase in the number of cases, deaths and hospitalizations.
