Moscow. June 5. INTERFAX.RU – Danish parliamentarians have approved a plan to build an artificial island near Copenhagen, BBC reports.
The giant island of Linettholm is planned to be connected to the mainland by means of a road, tunnel and metro line.
It is assumed that the island has an area of 2.8 square meters. km (about 400 football fields) will be home to 35 thousand people.
The authors of the project expect that the artificial island will also help protect the port of Copenhagen from rising sea levels: plans for the construction of Linettholm also include a system of dams around its perimeter.
Previously, the idea of construction was opposed by environmentalists who are concerned about its impact on the environment. The case has come to consideration in the European Court, there is no decision yet.
According to the BBC, if the construction of the island goes according to the plan, then by 2035 all work on the construction of the foundation will be completed, and the project can be fully completed by 2070.
