Apple has urged users to update their smartphones due to a dangerous vulnerability. Reported by the ExtremeTech edition.
The journalists recalled that at the end of January, the American company recommended that users of its ecosystem update iOS to the current version. According to the authors, such behavior of the company is atypical. In early March, enthusiasts found out that in this way the company wanted to reduce the number of iPhones susceptible to jailbreak due to the exploit.
The material says that we are talking about the vulnerability CVE-2021-1782, which is a weak point in the iOS kernel. With the help of a system flaw, it is unlikely that it will be possible to hack a smartphone remotely, but its presence opens up the possibility of installing a jailbreak. “It's not very dangerous, but it makes your phone less secure,” the authors noted.
“Jailbreak allows you to install software of your choice on the iPhone, which Apple definitely does not want,” the journalists concluded. According to them, the company intends to maintain the status of a closed OS and maintain a high level of control over applications.
In early March, a team of enthusiasts Unc0ver released a jailbreak for all iPhones – from the 6s model to the iPhone 12 series devices. The upgraded software works on all operating systems up to iOS 14.3. The activists who released it emphasized that the hacking of the devices became possible thanks to the CVE-2021-1782 vulnerability.
