Reconstruction of the golden hall of the Augsburg town hall will last more than one and a half years.

The golden hall of the Augsburg town hall in Germany was closed to visitors due to for the discovery of asbestos.

BILD writes about this.

The publication notes that Augsburg Town Hall, built at the beginning of the 17th century, is one of the most important landmarks of the late Renaissance in Germany. At one time, the Reichstag of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation met in its golden hall.

The town hall was destroyed in 1944, and was restored only 52 years later – in 1996. And it turned out that the materials used for the ceiling contained asbestos.

Опасный культурный памятник: историческое здание срочно закрыли для посетителей, какая причина

In the 20th century, asbestos was widely used in construction as a fire-resistant mineral. It was added to insulation, pipes, slate and plaster. However, at the end of the last century it was found that asbestos is extremely harmful to health and causes lung cancer.

Due to the presence of highly toxic asbestos, in 2008, the Palace of the Republic, built during the GDR era, was completely demolished in the center of Berlin.

Fortunately, Augsburg Town Hall will not have to be completely destroyed. But the historical golden hall is being reconstructed again. Work is expected to last until spring 2026.

Recall that Ukraine ranks first in the world in terms of the amount of waste from destruction. In order not to drown in construction rubble, we have already launched pilot projects for the disposal and processing of construction waste, which can become material for the restoration of Ukraine.
