The Dalai Lama promised to be reborn according to Buddhist tradition.
On the eve of his 90th birthday, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama, said that he plans to live another 40 years. He also stressed that after death he will definitely be reborn, as Buddhism teaches. He follows the teaching of reincarnation throughout his life.
Reuters reports this.
The Dalai Lama made the prediction that he could live to 130 years during a special ceremony in Dharamshala, the mountain town in India where he has lived since 1959 after fleeing Tibet. This new vision of the future significantly exceeds his previous expectations – by as much as two decades.
“So far I have served the Buddhadharma (Buddhist teachings – ed.) and the people of Tibet quite well,” he said between prayers, clearing his throat from time to time, “And yet I hope to live more than 130 years.”
At the ceremony in Dharamshala, the Dalai Lama noted that although Tibetans have lost their homeland and are living in exile, he has been able to bring many benefits to the people. He expressed his desire to continue working for the benefit of the people and the Buddhist teachings. He also reiterated that he wants to live for more than 130 years, longer than he had previously expected.
Let us recall that we previously wrote that the Dalai Lama will soon announce a decision regarding his successor.
