Hungary will block money from the EU to Ukraine due to the scandal with Russian oil.
Hungary will block 6.5 billion euro payments from the European Peace Fund to compensate for arms supplies to Ukraine until Kyiv resumes the transit of Lukoil oil.
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó in an interview with the Hungarian TV channel ATV News.
Szijjártó set an ultimatum that until Ukraine “resolves the issue with Lukoil should forget about paying 6.5 billion euros in compensation for arms supplies from the European Peacekeeping Program.
“What would it look like if we facilitated the payment of 6.5 billion euros while Ukraine threatens the security of our energy supply,” he said.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister called on the European Commission to “put pressure on Ukraine” to allow Lukoil to resume oil supplies through Ukrainian territory.
“The situation is that there was a system by which Russian companies transported crude oil to Hungary and Slovakia through Ukraine. Now the Ukrainians have made it partially impossible. This situation must be solved by the Ukrainians. We cannot rush to another service provider , because the Ukrainians believe that we should take it from them at their request. That tomorrow they will do the same again with another company? We are a state, not a flea market. We are a state that has contracts, energy supplies and. strategy on this matter. We must not rush, but take steps carefully and calmly, putting long-term strategy and long-term energy security at the forefront,” the scandalous Szijjártó says indignantly.
Recall that Lukoil stopped transporting oil to Hungary from June 2024 after the National Security and Defense Council extended sanctions against it.
In response, Hungary and Slovakia appealed to the EU to force Ukraine to resume transit.
Peter Szijjártó said that stopping oil transit threatens the security of energy supplies to his country and Slovakia. He said he planned to raise the issue at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
