The number of ransomware attacks will grow in 2022. Reported by the MIT Technology Review magazine.
Journalists refer to the report of the research company Mandiant, which has compiled a list of 14 top predictions in the information environment for 2022. Experts say that the main one is the increase in the number of cyberattacks aimed at stealing information. The authors predict that there will be more threats from hackers if governments and new technologies fail to come up with an adequate response.
In addition, in 2022, the number of cases of the proliferation of deepfakes – an image synthesis technique based on artificial intelligence – will increase. This method will be used to extort personal information. Mandiant experts believe that the main threat will come from Russia, Iran, China and North Korea.
“The outlook for threats in 2022 looks bleak as ransomware participants become more aggressive and evade tactics of defense and negotiation,” the authors of the report concluded.
In early December, Mandiant specialists accused hackers allegedly connected with the Russian special services of new attempts to steal information. Most of the data theft is believed to have been “relevant to Russian interests.”
