The iconic American writer and playwright, screenwriter for the film A Star is Born, Joan Didion, known for her novels and political journalism, has died at the age of 87. About this with reference to the publishers Didion reports The New York Times.

Didion passed away at her home in Manhattan. The cause of her death, according to the publishing house Knopf, which published the writer's works, was Parkinson's disease.

Joan Didion rose to prominence in the 1960s through articles in publications such as Life, The Saturday Evening Post, The New York Times Magazine, and Esquire. She wrote about the California counterculture, Hollywood, American politics and the social chaos of that decade in a sarcastic style that earned her the status of one of the most prominent representatives of “new journalism.”

In 2005, the author's bestselling memoir “The Year of Magical Thinking”, in which she told how she experienced grief after the death of her husband, writer John Gregory Dunn.

Didion also co-wrote several famous films with Dunn. These are “Panic in Needle Park”, “A Star is Born”, “Secrets of Confession” and “Play as written” (based on your own novel). The writer has been a recipient of the National Book Award for Nonfiction, Honorary Awards from the Writers Guild of the United States and the National Book Foundation.
