The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Cuba condemned the expansion of NATO to the borders of Russia. According to the department, this led to unpredictable consequences that could have been avoided, RIA Novosti reports.
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that in recent months the United States and NATO have moved forces in the direction of regions adjacent to Russia. This was preceded by the supply of modern weapons to Ukraine, they added, calling the situation a gradual military encirclement.
The Cuban agency added that it is impossible to examine the current situation thoroughly and honestly without assessing Russia's just claims against the United States and NATO, as well as the factors that led to the use of force and non-compliance with legal principles and international standards. “History will hold the US government responsible for the consequences of an increasingly offensive military doctrine beyond NATO's borders that threatens international peace, security and stability,” they said.
Earlier, Cuba also stated that it considers Russia's demands to the West in matters of security justified. Diplomats are confident that US policy is causing tension in the region and the world as a whole.
