Croatian President Zoran Milanovic reported serious security problems in Western Balkans, in particular in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He is sure that the problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina are likely to worsen, and the current political crisis may further increase.
The Croatian President said this during a meeting of heads of state and government of NATO member countries in Madrid, the press service of the head of state reports.
“Most of you, dear colleagues, it may seem that our the southeastern neighborhood is peaceful, and the conflicts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are now a hazy and distant memory. Unfortunately, this is not the case.I am concerned about the developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I fear that in this situation the gradual progress that many optimists hope for is frankly unlikely. At best, nothing will change after the upcoming October elections. It is more likely that the problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina will escalate, and the current political crisis could further escalate,” Milanovic said.
He believes that further destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have serious consequences for the wider region and the North Atlantic Alliance.
“In any case, the result will not be good for Bosnia and Herzegovina, nor for Croatia, and therefore for NATO. Because of its previous and current involvement, the Alliance has an interest and responsibility in Bosnia and Herzegovina and cannot afford to ignore the growing crisis in that country. Developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina have a direct impact on our national interests and security . Further destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have serious consequences for the wider region and NATO.We hope that it is not too late to change the situation,” the President of Croatia said.
Recall that NATO has increased the border with Russia for 800 miles (1287 km – ed.), adding Finland and Sweden to its bloc.
