The country also plans to provide Ukraine with ammunition and spare parts for equipment.

Croatia plans to purchase up to 50 Leopard 2A8 tanks from Germany to replace its Soviet tanks, which will later be transferred to Ukraine.

This was announced by Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anusic after a meeting with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius in Berlin, Reuters reports.

Anusic said that Croatia will be able to transfer 30 tanks and 30 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine by the end of 2024.

In a letter of intent signed by Anusic and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the two countries agreed to send spare parts and ammunition from Croatian stockpiles to Ukraine for use in Leopard tanks with financial support from Germany.

“The fact that Croatia is working with us on a joint purchase of Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks strengthens Germany's position as an industrial center and provides common standards within NATO,” Pistorius said in a statement from the Defense Ministry.

Recall that the Rheinmetall concern is developing a new tank and a new model of infantry fighting vehicles, which Ukraine will receive. The new tank will have artificial intelligence, satellite communications, a powerful communications system and full digitalization.
