Critical vulnerabilities found in Intel processors

Russian cybersecurity experts have discovered two critical vulnerabilities in Intel processors. Izvestia writes about this.

Undocumented capabilities allow you to modify the microcode and take control of the processor and the entire system. The Positive Technologies company found out that devices based on the Intel Atom family, which are installed in netbooks, tablets, POS-terminals and cash registers, were at risk. However, experts warned, there is a possibility that hackers could gain access to all current processors from this manufacturer.

Intel said it takes Positive Technologies' research seriously and is carefully examining their statements.

In November 2020, three zero day vulnerabilities were found in the iPhone iOS 14 operating system – potentially dangerous bugs for which protection mechanisms have not yet been developed. The first issue allowed remote code execution and iPhone jailbreak. The second problem is related to the escalation of privileges in the iOS kernel, the third is with getting data from the OS kernel memory. These vulnerabilities could allow attackers to remotely hack and block Apple smartphones.

Earlier it was reported that a critical vulnerability was found in popular Android devices. Cybersecurity experts have discovered over 400 vulnerabilities in Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. All devices powered by chips of the Snapdragon family are under the threat of hacking – 40 percent of devices from the total number of Android smartphones, or more than a billion devices. In particular, in the US, Snapdragon processors are found in 90 percent of Android devices on the market. A critical vulnerability can be exploited by hackers when a user uploads video or other content to the Internet.
