“Critical threshold”: forecaster warns of global climate change

According to her, over the past 13 months, each month has exceeded the average global earth temperature by 1.5 or 1.6 degrees.

The average annual temperature on Earth as a whole is becoming much higher than before. This is especially evidenced by the data for recent years.

This was stated by the representative of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, forecaster Natalia Ptukha, reports “Kommersant Ukrainsky”.

“The last few years, especially this year and the previous one, have much higher temperature indicators compared to those that were (in the pre-industrial period – ed.). And accordingly, the average annual temperature on Earth is becoming much higher,” said Ptukha.

According to her, over the past 13 months, each month has exceeded the average global earth temperature by 1.5 or 1.6 degrees. This is already the threshold that was once defined by climatologists as a critical threshold.

“And we are, in principle, approaching it.This is a very threatening situation, and we need to respond to it. For Ukraine, in recent years, we have also seen that these heat waves are becoming more and more numerous and the duration of days with warm periods is becoming longer, while the duration with cold days is shorter,” Ptukha summed up.

Recall that scientists assume that 2024 may surpass 2023 as the hottest year since observations began. This is partly due to the El Niño weather phenomenon, which increases global temperatures, increasing the impact of man-made climate change on warming the planet.

Earlier, scientists reported on the horrific consequences of the rapid melting of sea ice in Antarctica.
