Cracks found in another module on ISS

by alex

The cosmonauts found blind cracks on the oldest module of the International Space Station (ISS) – Zarya, said Vladimir Soloviev, Flight Director of the ISS Russian Segment, General Designer of the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation. He fears that over time they will begin to creep, given that previously through cracks were found on the Zvezda module.

“Several such places with blind cracks were found in the Zarya module,” Mr. Solovyov told RIA Novosti. He added that he did not like this situation.

Vladimir Soloviev reported that the systems of the Russian segment of the ISS are in a high degree of wear and tear. According to him, at the meeting of the Council of Chief Designers, no one gave a guarantee that after 2025 the station equipment would not fail. “Everyone verbally convinces that nothing will break, but they don’t put signatures on the document,” said Mr. Solovyov. He added that at a meeting of the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos it was noted that “the station is on its way.”

An air leak was recorded on the ISS in the fall of 2019. A year later, the crew discovered the first crack. Russia and the United States set up a working group in May to find the causes of the air leak in the Russian module. In July, the search for cracks was resumed.
