Cracks found in another module of the Russian segment of the ISS

The cosmonauts found blind cracks on the Zarya module of the International Space Station (ISS), said Vladimir Soloviev, General Designer of Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Flight Director of the ISS Russian Segment, twice Hero of the USSR.

“Several such places with blind cracks were found in the Zarya module,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Solovyov also pointed out that previously discovered through cracks in another Zvezda module raise fears that over time, cracks in Zarya will also begin to spread.

Recall that a small air leak on the ISS was recorded in September 2019. In October last year, the crew discovered the first crack in the intermediate chamber of the Zvezda module, and in the spring of 2021 they were able to repair it. Later it became known about the presence of a second crack, which the crew also repaired. Nevertheless, the air leak did not stop, although it decreased. The astronauts continued to search for leaks and seal them.

At the end of April, astronauts on the ISS closed the hatch into the compartment of the Russian Zvezda module until July, from which air was leaking. Before closing, cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov scattered dry soup in the compartment as an indicator, and also installed a video camera – it should record the places of accumulation of the product.
