COVID-pandemic: Italy intensifies lockdown, and Vienna and Brussels protest against quarantine

by alex

Italy returns mask mode.

Starting today, quarantine restrictions are tightening in Italy.

This was reported in TSN.Rank on December 6.

Mandatory mask regime was returned to the country, including and on the streets. Only those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have been ill can visit most establishments and use public transport. Also, the Italian government is discussing the introduction of compulsory vaccination for a number of professions.

Meanwhile, against the background of the introduction of new quarantine restrictions, a wave of protests swept across European countries. In Austrian Vienna, where now the most severe lockdown in Europe, more than 40 thousand people gathered at the weekend. They opposed the government's plans to introduce mandatory vaccinations from February 2022.

And in Brussels, anti-quarantine protests escalated into street riots and clashes with the police. Stones and flares were flying at the policemen. In response, they fired tear gas and water cannons. Two dozen protesters were detained.

Recall that the WHO reported that the new strain of the Omicron coronavirus has not yet caused a single death in the countries where it was detected. Preliminary evidence suggests that the highly contagious variant, first discovered in South Africa last month, may cause milder symptoms than its predecessors, in particular Delta, which is now the dominant global strain.
