Covert Operation: Russia Tried to Attack US Planes — WSJ

The devices were detonated in packages delivered by civilian aircraft.

Russia is suspected of planning to send incendiary devices on planes heading to the United States. The two devices that exploded in Europe were part of a covert Russian operation to install them on cargo or passenger ships.

This is reported in The Wall Street Journal.

Two explosions occurred in July 2024 at warehouses of the logistics company DHL in Germany and Birmingham, England.

Western security officials said that both incidents were part of a covert Russian operation that aimed to carry out terrorist attacks on cargo or passenger planes flying to the United States and Canada, the article says.

Investigators have already found out that the manufactured devices are electric massagers implanted with a flammable substance based on magnesium.

The intelligence service is convinced that the Russian GRU is behind the sabotage and explosive campaign.

At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, whom The Wall Street Journal asked to comment, once again objected to everything.

“We have never heard any official accusations. These are traditional unfounded insinuations of the media,” he said.

According to the European authorities, Russia is behind an expanded sabotage campaign, in particular, Britain and the Czech Republic were subjected to attacks on pipelines and data cables in the Baltics, and interference in the water supply in Sweden and Finland.

Recall that it became known that Russia mobilized its sympathizers in Moldova, but Mai Sandu managed to win the presidential elections.
