Ciro Immobiles Club Lazio has to pay a higher fine

The Italian Serie A club Lazio Rome must expect higher penalties than previously thought in the event of a violation of applicable corona health regulations. The court of appeal of the Italian Football Association (Figc) increased the sanction against the club to 200,000 euros, as emerged from the judgment on Friday. Originally 150,000 euros were estimated in the first instance.

In addition, club boss Claudio Lotito should not be blocked in his function for seven but twelve months. The court thus complied with a request from the public prosecutor's office. Lazio, however, should appeal in the last instance, as the newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport” wrote. The sentence against two doctors under investigation in the case remained in place.

The association was accused of not having reported positive corona test results to the Italian health authorities on time in October and November of last year. According to a statement from the public prosecutor's office in February, the corona cases were discovered during two games in the Champions League against Zenit St. Petersburg and Club Bruges.
