Perez can look forward to a positive court verdict for Super Liga
A Spanish court has sided with the controversial soccer super league. The commercial court number 17 in Madrid on Tuesday prohibited the international associations FIFA and UEFA as well as their affiliated organizations and leagues from any sanction or other measure against the twelve founding clubs, as reported by the Spanish media, citing judicial circles.
The judgment was made at the request of the European Superleague Company SL responsible for the new competition, it said. In the “precautionary judgment” by judge Manuel Ruiz de Lara, which has a suspensive effect until an agreement or a judgment by a higher instance is reached, sanctions against participating clubs are expressly forbidden.
Above all, the exclusion of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea from the semi-finals of the Champions League – as well as penalties against players, coaches and officials of the clubs from Spain, England and Italy that were involved in the founding of the Superliga should become more difficult.
In addition, any measure is prohibited that “directly or indirectly prohibits, restricts, limits or in any way connects with conditions”, quoted the specialist newspaper “AS” and other Spanish media from the judgment. The commercial court confirmed the judgment on request.
“Your hands (the associations and professional leagues) are now tied. You mustn't even offend us,” the newspaper “El Mundo” quoted as saying a legal advisor to the Super League. However, it is questionable to what extent Judge Ruiz de Lara can influence further proceedings with his remarkably quick judgment.
