Russia is excluded from the membership of the Council of Europe. This was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, reports the Daily Sabah newspaper.

“The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, chaired by Italy, has decided to exclude Russia from membership. Italy considers this a necessary measure in connection with Russia's operation in the Donbass,” Di Maio said.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, on the initiative of Poland and Ukraine, began the procedure for suspending Russia's membership in the organization.
