Kirby believes that Putin will not use nuclear weapons in response to the operation in the Kursk region.

The White House commented on whether dictator Putin could use nuclear weapons in response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in the Kursk region. regions.

According to White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby, Putin is concerned, but the US does not see an increase in nuclear rhetoric from the Kremlin, Voice of America reports.

“If he's moving troops there, he's concerned to some degree about what's going on. I don't know if that qualifies as desperation or not, but he's certainly reacting, at least in some way, to what's going on in the Kursk region. But we haven't seen or heard any escalatory rhetoric, particularly on nuclear weapons, in recent days,” Kirby said.

A White House adviser says Washington has no reason at this point to change its own calculus or strategic deterrence posture on nuclear threats.

White House confirms some Russian troops have been moved from positions in Ukraine to Kursk region

Kirby says some Russian units have been redirected from and around Ukraine to Kursk region.

“But these are just the first reports of what we are seeing. I can't say for sure how many there are, or how many more there might be, or what their intentions will be, but we have started to see some Russian units being redirected to the Kursk region,” he said.

The U.S. doesn't yet know how many units will arrive from Ukraine or what their military mission will be.

“I know you won't be very satisfied with that answer, but it's honest. “We're watching this closely, but we can't say for sure what Mr. Putin is going to do,” a White House official said.

Kirby said Putin now faces a dilemma of how to bolster his defenses in the Kursk region.

“Putin and the Russians have had to make adjustments. We're seeing signs that they're trying to entrench themselves in and around the Kursk region as a result of the Ukrainian operation there. To do that, you have to take assets that were in one place doing one thing, and now you have to put them to another. Making such decisions is certainly a dilemma,” he noted.

Earlier, John Kirby gave Putin simple advice on how to solve the problems in Kursk.
