Former CIA director expressed doubts about the seriousness of the Russian president's statements.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the West against giving Ukraine permission to strike Russia with Western weapons, arguing that this could lead to a NATO war with Russia. However, many experts consider these statements to be only Russian bluff, not based on real intentions or threats.
Former Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency, US General David Petraeus, spoke about this in an interview with Channel 24.
“I think it's worth worrying about. You have to take this into account, you have to analyze it. I'm sure this is one of the topics that is being discussed in intensive negotiations in Washington and London. But we've heard his threats from the very beginning of the war. Sometimes there were threats of tactical nuclear weapons, and they turned out to be empty,” he said.
Recall that Voice of America reported that US President Joe Biden left the restrictions on strikes against Ukraine in effect deep into Russia, while Britain is engaged in delicate negotiations with the White House.
