The Russian authorities plan to attract the Cossacks to public service for the protection of nature. This initiative was made by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Sergei Anoprienko, Kommersant reports.
Anoprienko instructed the subordinate federal services, agencies and state institutions to create the possibility of accepting representatives of registered Cossack societies for vacant positions. They will begin to protect the nature and forests of Russia, to ensure environmental safety on the basis of civil law contracts.
It is assumed that the Cossacks will be accepted into the civil service, mainly to participate in raiding events and in emergency situations. The Ministry of Natural Resources has already confirmed the elaboration of this initiative.
“The Cossacks will be able to ensure environmental safety in specially protected natural areas after the conclusion of agreements between the registered Cossack societies and the administration of protected areas … So, already eight territories are ready for this,” the department emphasized.
It is noted that at the moment the Cossack military societies provide assistance to the regions of Russia in the protection and reproduction of forests on a free basis. They participate in raids to find illegal garbage dumps in Kalmykia, Rostov, Saratov and other regions.
Earlier, the authorities of Sevastopol attracted Cossacks to work at checkpoints on non-working days. At the entrance to the city, they checked the presence of QR codes on arriving people.
