Cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov repaired a spacesuit on the ISS
Cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov replaced a faulty valve in the Orlan-ISS suit before spacewalks from the International Space Station (ISS), which are planned in September, RIA Novosti reports, referring to the crew's talks with the Earth broadcasted by NASA.
In May, Dubrov, in a spacesuit, found a stuck valve of the automatic thermal control system and, when trying to move it with a paper clip, accidentally pierced the membrane, this led to a water leak. The astronaut sealed the damaged area with a patch.
In July, Sergey Pozdnyakov, General Director-General Designer of the Zvezda Research and Production Enterprise, announced that the new valve had been delivered to the station.
But, judging by the negotiations, replacing the valve did not completely solve the problem in the automatic thermal control system of the spacesuit.
It is planned that on September 2 and 8 space walks of Peter Dubrov and Oleg Novitsky will take place, their task is to lay electrical and information cables between the Zvezda and Nauka modules.
Currently, the 65th expedition consisting of the Russians Oleg Novitsky and Peter Dubrov, the Americans Shane Kimbrow, Mark Wande Haya and Megan MacArthur, the Frenchman Tom Peske and the Japanese Akihiko Hoshide (station commander) are working on the ISS.
Let us remind you that on July 21, the Proton-M carrier rocket launched the Nauka module from Baikonur. It flew to the Zvezda module of the ISS Russian segment a few days later. On the “Science”, after docking, the engines suddenly turned on, turning the station by 540 degrees. To return the station to the desired position, the engines of the Zvezda and the Progress MS-17 cargo vehicle were used. Roscosmos said that the incident did not damage the ISS, nevertheless, the consequences of the emergency may appear later.
