For the first time in eight months, a coronavirus patient has died in China. This was announced by the State Committee for Hygiene and Healthcare of the PRC, reports TASS.
The first death since mid-May was reported in Hebei Province, where a new outbreak was identified in early January.
The ministry said that over the past 24 hours, 138 new cases of COVID-19 infection and 78 asymptomatic carriers were detected in China, as well as one new death. In addition, 28 patients were discharged from hospitals.
On January 8, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, with a population of 11 million, imposed lockdown and martial law. This decision was made due to a sharp increase in the number of new cases of coronavirus infection. Schools and residential complexes were closed in the city, the entrance was closed, and mail delivery was stopped for three days. Chinese authorities have urged residents of two cities south of Beijing – Shijiazhuang and Xingtai – not to leave their homes for a week due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the province.
During the epidemic in mainland China, 87.7 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were detected, 82.3 thousand people recovered, 4.6 thousand died.
