Republican McCall, member of the US House of Representatives International Affairs Committee, presented a report based on the results of an investigation conducted over the past few months into the nature of the origin of the new coronavirus.
The report claims that COVID-19 is an artificially modified natural virus that has escaped from the laboratories of the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. McCall and his co-authors are confident that they have collected and presented sufficient evidence to support this version, reports FoxNews.
The main theses of the report have already appeared in the press. One of the main pieces of evidence that McCall is confident of, and which directly or indirectly testify in favor of the fact that COVID-19 appeared in the Wuhan laboratory, is evidence that a few months before the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan itself, the laboratory requested a major renovation and disinfection, despite the fact that it was built and began to function only 2 years before. The new renovation included, among other things, the replacement of air conditioning and air disinfection systems.
In recent months, more and more health experts, scientists and officials are calling for a large-scale investigation into the possible leak of the new coronavirus from the Wuhan laboratory. But the Chinese government denies them this.
The manipulation of a number of publications on specialized websites and in special databases of virologists also speaks in favor of the version of the leak: information from Wuhan appeared there, then disappeared.
The report also claims that at the end of 2019, the Wuhan Institute of Virology was taken over by the Chinese military, which means that the country's government was “concerned about some of the events taking place there.” And satellite images of Wuhan show a sudden surge in activity in local hospitals. Thus, the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan began long before it became known to the world.
Cartographic analysis also confirmed that the spread of the coronavirus was unwittingly started by laboratory staff who commuted to and from work using certain public transport routes.
Also in 2019, the World War Games were held in Wuhan, whose participants complained of symptoms similar to coronavirus disease. In addition, it was in the countries participating in these competitions that the first cases of the emergence of coronavirus were recorded earlier than anywhere else.
China has denied any allegations of a possible leak of COVID-19 from its Wuhan lab. The World Health Organization takes a similar position.
