A strain of coronavirus from South Africa reached the United States: the first infected were found in the state of South Carolina. This is stated on the website of the State Department of Health (DHEC).
We are talking about two patients, their identities were not disclosed. So far, experts do not know how exactly they contracted the “South African” strain.
“The emergence of this SARS-CoV-2 strain is an important reminder that the battle against this deadly virus is far from over. While new coronavirus vaccines are being developed, our stocks are limited. Therefore, we must decide on this battle, ”said the interim director of the department.
The chief US infectious disease specialist, Anthony Fauci, has already said that the coronavirus mutation previously discovered in South Africa worries the country more than the British coronavirus.
A new strain of coronavirus was discovered in South Africa on December 18. Scientists have identified a previously unknown species of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country. The South African Minister of Health emphasized that the second wave of coronavirus in the country is probably associated with this particular mutation of the disease.
