Alice Robinson
Alice Robinson is dying to start the ski season in Sölden. Only the strict Corona rules in their homeland caused problems.
“I feel very good,” said the 19-year-old before the first World Cup outing in Sölden on Saturday. The winner of the last women's giant slalom of the preseason only regrets that hardly anyone in her home country is aware of her rise in the World Cup. “There are no TV broadcasts of World Cup races,” she explains the “Blick”.
Because Robinson starts for New Zealand. Skiing is not the most popular sport in the island state, and Robinson is rarely present at home. The reason for this is the strict corona entry rules that also apply in their country of birth, Australia. “I was in Europe for eight months and was never allowed to go home because of the travel restrictions. This time away from my family and friends was brutal. I had a few lows and was mentally drained,” says Robinson.
She was particularly worried about not being able to cure a possible injury in her loved one. “That was tough. But overall I learned a lot and increased my resilience.” Last summer – winter in the southern hemisphere – Robinson trained in Queenstown. Another lockdown caused problems. “I lost two weeks, but it doesn't matter,” she says.
