Bad news for all football fans in Vienna: The new corona rules also affect visits to the stadium.
Stricter corona measures will apply in Vienna from October 1st. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) announced this on Tuesday. In the future, for example, 2G proof must be provided when visiting night-time restaurants and events with more than 500 people. This means that only vaccinated or recovered people have access.
These new regulations also have an impact on sport in Vienna, especially football. Because even at home games of Rapid and Austria, only those spectators who have been vaccinated or have recovered are allowed to enter the stadium. This already applies to the Rapids home game against WSG Tirol on October 3rd. Austria has at least until October 16, i.e. until after the international break, before the next home game against Admira follows.
No vaccination call
As a result, Austria also expects fewer spectators, as the KURIER was informed. The club does not know how many of its viewers are actually vaccinated, but they will not start an official vaccination call. Austria, on the other hand, hopes that in the future those who feel safer with the new regulation will come to the stadium.
The tournament boss of the Erste Bank Open tennis tournament in Vienna, Herwig Straka, is relieved. The tournament will take place from October 25th to 31st. You now have “planning security”, he says, and you can count on a “full hall.” Talk to around 9,000 viewers. Last year the number had been reduced further and further before only 1,000 fans were allowed per session.
