Immediately before the Champions League guest appearance at Benfica Lisbon (4-0), Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann tested positive for the corona virus.

The 34-year-old had complained of flu-like symptoms in the hotel and then did not go to the stadium. The people of Munich initially reported a flu-like infection, then the positive corona smear was made public on Thursday. Nagelsmann, who has complete vaccination protection, was brought to Munich by ambulance aircraft and is now in quarantine at home.

However, this does not prevent the coach shooting star from working, even if Nagelsmann cannot sit on the Munich supervisor bench in the Bundesliga duel against Hoffenheim. The 34-year-old completed an online press conference on Friday.

“Given the circumstances, I'm doing pretty well, I'm still a little weak, but I can laugh again,” said the Bayern coach in a voice that was hard to hear. However, Nagelsmann does not know where he was infected. “I'm a bit scared, at first I really thought that I had a flu-like infection. But I would say that I'm very careful,” said the Bayern coach.

After the coach tested positive, the entire team was tested on Friday. This could be crucial especially for some players. Because, according to “Bild”, five Munich squad players are said to be unvaccinated. “I think it's good to get vaccinated. There is no compulsory vaccination in Germany. There is no such thing at Bayern. But we advocate that you do it. You can see how things are going, you only have to go to clinics ask, “said Nagelsmann, who continues to advocate the vaccination.

Currently, however, the unvaccinated players do not have to be in isolation. Because Nagelsmann had been testing himself regularly since Sunday after a cold that had plagued the trainer for a long time. “I had no close contact from Tuesday. The question is therefore superfluous,” said the coach shooting star.

In Lisbon, Nagelsmann had coached from the hotel bed. “Up to the 65th minute I was permanently connected to the bank, tried to intervene. For the next time, I built a small analysis center in the kitchen at home with a laptop, a large screen and an iPad,” the coach said his daily work.

At the same time, the Munich coach hopes to be able to return to the field as soon as possible. “Against Benfica was the first game of my coaching career that I missed. I would be happy if I can play in the DFB Cup against Gladbach again on Wednesday,” said Nagelsmann looking forward to the next week.
