Carrera and Revell: Race tracks and model making were in demand in the corona pandemic.
The Carrera Revell Group was not only able to successfully face the consequences of the pandemic, but also grew.
The company explains the growth with the fact that “the private, domestic area and the family environment have become more important as a safe haven”. Accordingly, those affected are also looking for a job – and that is found in model making, remote-controlled cars and car racing tracks. All of this not only experienced a “revival”, but also increased the group's turnover by 142 million euros.
At Carrera Toys GmbH, total sales increased by 8.3 percent to 89.3 million euros, with car racing tracks remaining the core business at 59 percent. The demand for the “Carrera First” and “GO !!!” Car racing tracks thanks to the popular license themes “Paw Patrol”, “Mario Kart” and “Cars”. Carrera RC was able to increase its share of sales to 32 percent.
“Carrera RC and Revell Control are in competition, but complement each other well overall and as a group they are now market leaders in the German RC toy market,” said the group of companies. Internationally, Carrera was able to grow primarily in the USA, Canada and Spain. Revell GmbH was able to achieve an increase in total sales of a good 8 percent to 52.8 million euros in 2020, with the core business of model making including accessories accounting for 63 percent.
The remote-controlled models of the Revell Control brand achieved a sales share of 31 percent and were another sales driver in 2020 with 8.5 percent. The Revell 3D Puzzle and Preschool product ranges together represent a sales share of 7 percent, with the market shares of 3D puzzles in particular have developed well. The Harry Potter distribution line and the Revell 3D Puzzle Titanic, Eiffel Tower and Cologne Cathedral were particularly popular. In the export business, Revell was able to grow particularly in Great Britain, Spain, Italy and the USA.
In the course of 2021, Carrera and Revell want to offer a special specialty trade campaign to actively promote sales locally in the store and at the same time in the web shops. In addition, there are over 20 internal company projects “that will be implemented in the short term or by 2022”, according to the company. Carrera comes up with a total of 25 new highway racing sets and over 100 new slot cars. The absolute highlight is the brand new “Carrera GO !!! Build'n Race” series.
The crossbar and a special clip connect the “Carrera GO !!!” lane with the world of building blocks that are already in the children's rooms. The colorful trucks and cool speedsters as well as routes, bridges, crossings and obstacles can be designed with the building blocks as you like, but they can also be quickly rebuilt. In addition, “Carrera Evolution” starts the new year with a relaunch. All vehicles are now equipped with luminous front and rear lighting. The Revell 2021 range offers around 80 new models, from “Star Wars” to “The Mandalorian”.
