Последствия победы Трампа для НАТО: глава МИД Британии сделал громкое заявление

David Cameron avoided criticizing Trump, but made it clear that he recognized the risks of his potential election as US president.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron believes the AUKUS pact and the NATO alliance must be in the “best shape possible” to increase their chances of surviving Donald Trump's potential return to the White House. He made this statement after high-level talks in Australia.

The Guardian writes about this.

The publication notes that during his speech Cameron tried to avoid criticizing Donald Trump and said that “it depends only on America” who its citizens will elect as president.

“What we will do, and I am sure what the Australian government would do, is work with whoever becomes president,” Cameron stressed.

However, the British Foreign Office chief appeared to “implicitly acknowledge the risks” that the AUKUS and NATO alliances could face if Trump is elected president.

Cameron called the AUKUS partnership, in which the US and UK will help Australia acquire nuclear submarines, “an absolutely brilliant deal” and called NATO “the most successful defense alliance in history.”

“The best thing we can do is strengthen these alliances, get these projects in the best shape possible so that whoever becomes the new president can see them working with a very successful set of mechanisms,” – noted the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The publication notes that so far Trump has not made hostile remarks regarding the AUKUS agreement and has often expressed skepticism about NATO.

Recall that Foreign Affairs believes that Trump’s first presidential term tested the strength of transatlantic relations, and if he wins the 2024 elections, US ties with Europe and NATO could be completely destroyed.
