The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as between Moscow and NATO, has reached a dangerous level, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.
– We will not ignore our principles and close relations with Ukraine just because we have an intense relationship with Russia. In many complex equations like this, we are doing what the zeitgeist and our national security require, the Turkish diplomat said.
Cavusoglu recalled that Turkey has the second largest military contingent in NATO and is the fifth largest participant in the Alliance's operations and missions, and therefore plays an active role in these efforts.
– Some countries are trying to present the EU as an alternative to NATO. This is not constructive and unrealistic. The indivisibility of transatlantic security is our fundamental principle, he added.
In early December, Turkish President Recep Erdogan said that he could organize negotiations between Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, since they have good relations with Ukraine , and with Russia.
